We are delighted to announce a series of tea time mini concerts featuring world famous pianist Allan Schiller. The concerts will run every other month at Totterdown Baptist Church in Bristol and in each one Allan will introduce some famous works of a great composer. At only 45 minutes long the concerts are an ideal introduction to classical music for children and anyone learning to play the piano but will also appeal to classical music enthusiasts.
The first concert will feature the piano music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (the composer that Allan is most associated with) and miniatures from a secret composer typically from the 20th century. As such there will always be some pieces that are familiar and some that may be new to the audience but will also surprise and delight.
There will also be some light hearted chat and “Allan Schiller’s A-Z of music” where Allan will choose a couple of music terms and then chat about these and demonstrate what they sound like with piano examples.
It promises to be a great introduction to classical music for younsters (and oldsters too) in nice bite sized chunks. Buy your tickets in advance at Eventbrite or turn up on the day and buy on the door.
One last thing (spolier alert!), Allan has committed to playing some Copland at some point – can’t wait!
Allan Schiller is widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest pianists. Born in Leeds he studied initially with Fanny Waterman making his debut at the age of ten in a Mozart concerto with the Halle Orchestra under Sir John Barbirolli. He later studied with Denis Matthews and became the first British pianist to be awarded a scholarship to study at the Moscow Conservatoire under Viktor Merzhanov. After further study under Guido Agosti in Italy he returned to this country and rapidly established a reputation as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation with solo appearances throughout the country and concerto performances with all the major UK orchestras and the BBC Symphony Orchestras, working with a number of distinguished conductors including Sir George Solti, Bernard Haitink, Norman del Mar, Sir Malcolm Sargent and Sir Charles Mackerras Allan has a particular reputation as a Mozart player ‘par excellence’. He has made countless broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and recorded a number of highly regarded cds including Mozart concerti with Sir Charles Mackerras and Elgar and Bridge piano quintets with the Coull String Quartet.
